Counseling and Coaching Services
I am earning hours toward licensure as an LPC in Oregon and Virginia. In both states, I am under Supervision and working in Group and Private Practice providing telehealth therapy to a diverse group of clients. I do not accept insurance but I provide a sliding scale fee for services to counseling clients located in either Virginia or Oregon, and coaching clients around the world. Cost should not be a barrier to quality mental health care.
I am an eclectic, trauma-responsive, multiculturally competent therapist and coach most closely aligned with the Feminist, Narrative, and Humanist theoretical orientations. I have specialized training in anxiety management, mindfulness, anti-bias and trauma treatment. I am LGBTQA+ affirming, sex positive, kink positive, and body positive. I have worked with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and supported both individuals and families in understanding and navigating the often complex aspects of marginalized and intersectional identities.
I believe that the stories we tell ourselves are created by a combination of the things that happen to us, individual nature, generational messaging (family and close community), and the larger systems within which we are socialized. It is possible to ReStory those narratives and learn new ways to cope, interact, create, earn and imagine.
I help people change the stories they tell themselves about who they are and what they deserve. I provide a unique combination of therapeutic interventions, mindfulness, self-compassion, and creativity to help clients identify their specific goals and work toward achieving them. Whatever your goals, and no matter your background, long-term change does not occur from a place of shame. Whether you are dealing with common issues such as imposter syndrome, co-dependency; or you are learning to manage the effects of trauma and mental health diagnoses - you can develop a new narrative and learn the necessary skills to move beyond your sticking points. I utilize a combination of Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, and mindful self-compassion strategies and techniques in my therapeutic work. I also believe in the value of mindfulness and meditation practice.
I completed my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia with an interest in Narrative Therapy and its effectiveness in the treatment of complex trauma. I am a former TEDx presenter speaking frequently on the intersection of creativity, compassion, and change.
Whether you need a coach or a therapist, I can provide a unique combination of creativity, nurturing, education, and accountability. You can meet with me individually, as part of numerous group options, or a combination of both. Schedule a free 30 minute consultation to discuss your specific needs.
Counseling certainly includes elements of Coaching and the two may go side-by-side. Counselors can be Coaches for sure as coaches often are future-focused, solution-focused, and strengths-based. Good counseling certainly includes those elements.
However, Counselors receive specialized education and training to specifically support people in addressing the difficult experiences of their lives, learning coping and distress tolerance skills to help manage symptoms associated with trauma and mental health challenges, and we are trained in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions.
I am credentialed to provide Counseling services to individuals living in either Virginia or Oregon.
As mentioned above, Coaching is solution-focused, future-focused, and strengths-based guidance and support. Coaches help individuals set and achieve goals, make changes to health, career, and relationships, identify healthy habits, and learn to set reasonable boundaries with people and systems. Coaches help people get unstuck without a focus on past trauma or treatment of mental health diagnoses. I can provide virtual coaching services to people anywhere in the world.
